Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to have experience to join and start playing?
No! Our membership includes a broad spectrum of skill levels, from those with absolutely no experience, to those who have played soccer for many years. The common denominator is a desire for a challenging athletic experience, with the emphasis on fun! Our philosophy is to provide fun, fitness, and friendship to female soccer enthusiasts on the North Shore.
Do I have to be thirty years of age to join the league?
Yes, but there are no restrictions on the upper age bracket! Our membership includes players in their thirties, forties, fifties, and beyond. It is never too late!
You are eligible to join our league if you turn 30 years old (or older) during your first season. Our league has 2 seasons: Fall/Winter and Spring/Summer, the dates being determined by the schedule for the appropriate season.
Proof of age is required to register, by way of a BC Driver's License, or similar ID, which states both your birth date and home address.
Do I have to live on the North Shore to play in the North Shore Thirty Something Women's Soccer League?
Yes...but the North Shore is broadly defined as including the area between Deep Cove and Whistler.
Proof of residency is required to register, by way of a BC Driver's License, or similar ID, which states both your birth date and home address.
When does the season run, and what is a typical game schedule?
There are two seasons of play...Fall/Winter and Spring/Summer.
The Fall/Winter season begins in early September, and runs until early March. Games are once a week, and are usually played on Sunday mornings at 9:30am on the North Shore.
Twice during the season, North Shore based teams travel to Squamish , usually once in the early fall, and once after January 1st.
The Spring/Summer season begins in late April or early May, and runs until July. Games are played either on Monday, Wednesday, or Friday evenings at 8pm, or Sunday mornings between 8am and noon. Almost all games are on the North Shore, with the possible addition of a game or two in Burnaby.
How long will I have to wait before I am assigned to a team?
The wait time varies greatly, season to season, and even month to month. It can range from no wait whatsoever (receiving an immediate placement upon application), to a wait period of several months. It is important to complete the New Player League Application form on our website and submit it as soon as possible. You will then be contacted by the league's Placement Coordinator with an estimate of current wait times, if any.
How are team assignments made?
You will be assigned to a team based on available space. In other words, when your name comes to the top of the wait list (if any), you will be assigned to the next team that requests an additional player.
When do teams practice?
There are 18 teams in the league, and they each have their own practice schedule. Typically during the Fall/Winter season, teams practice once a week, on a weekday evening. Practice field assignments are usually Monday through Friday, from 8:30-10pm, on an all-weather North Shore field.
Most teams opt not to practice during the Spring/Summer season.
What equipment do I need to get started?
You will need shin pads, and cleats ( for grass) or turf boots (for artificial turf). Uniforms are available from your assigned team.

What are the 2 Divisions in the league?
The "Regular" Division is for anyone 30 years or older, and the "Over 45" Division is for anyone 45 years or older who would prefer to play only amongst teams that consist of players that are all 45 and older. Currently, 2 of the 18 teams in the league are designated as "Over 45" teams. The league expects the number of "Over 45" teams to grow in time.
Do I have to provide a signed waiver every time I register?
You are required to provide the league with a hard copy of a signed waiver upon initial application to play. This form can be downloaded form the website, signed and mailed to the mailing address listed in another section of our FAQ.
For subsequent registrations, once the league has a signed waiver on file, it is sufficient to agree to the terms of the waiver by ticking the box on the electronic registration form.
Do I have to submit an ID and photo every time I register?
No, only the first time you register.
If you are a league member in good standing, and have a current Player's Card, you do not need to provide an ID and photo.
If you are a new player or do not have a current Player's Card, you need to supply both an ID and photo, in order that a Player's Card can be produced for use in the current season. No player can participate in any league game without an up-to-date Player's Card.

What is the Players' Pool?
The Players' Pool is only applicable for the Spring/Summer season, when teams frequently find themselves short of players and need to find "spares" from other teams for certain games.
The option to have your name included on a Players' Pool list is completely voluntary, but some players enjoy the opportunity of playing more games and getting to better know players on other teams. You have the option to decline any time that you are contacted about sparing.
When you register on-line for the Spring/Summer season, you will be able to select whether or not you'd like to have your name included on the Players' Pool list for either the Regular Division and/or the Over 45 Division (if eligible).
The Players' Pool list will include your name and contact info (phone, cell, e-mail address) and will be made available to registered players only.
